CHAPTER 16

Blas

“So why don’t you like me?”

Blas didn’t want to sound like a Neanderthal, so he bit back the animalistic growl that ran up to his throat, but that didn’t mean he was any readier to answer.

Monday had come way too fast in his opinion, and he wasn’t ready to give Aníbal an answer as the guy leaned over the bar on the first floor.

Sama was upstairs getting ready, and he’d asked Blas to grab some food from the fridge so they could be good hosts.

It was, of course, his luck that Aníbal knocked on the door while he was still getting the sandwiches done as per Sama’s instructions.

“You’re disrespectful,” Blas said with more ease than he would’ve expected. “And I don’t think you see Sama as a person.”

“What?” Aníbal said, looking taken aback. “What does that even mean?”

“It means you think you have a right to him by throwing money at him, as if he wasn’t more than a sex worker.”

“You’re reaching.”

Blas sighed. Maybe he was, but he wasn’t about to get into a fight.

He didn’t have to, either; Sama chose that moment to get downstairs and join them.

“Hey, Sama, are you free this Thursday?”

“What?” Blas frowned.

Sama’s eyes widened, hesitating between the two of them. “I… think so?”

“My family is attending a gala raising funds for kids with cancer. Wanna come?”

Blas sighed. “Is this because of what I just said?”

“What did you just say?” Sama’s eyes squinted before he reached Blas, one hand on his chest as if he thought he had to stop Blas from jumping across the bar to Aníbal.

As if.

“Your bodyguard thinks I only see you as a sex worker, and keeping in mind his not so subtle comments last time we met, I’m gonna assume hiding you is a big reason for it. So, wanna come with me?”

“I mean, it sounds… fun?”

“It’s not.” Aníbal grimaced. “I normally wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy, but I do have to go, especially if I’m going to need my parents to back me up to buy this place.”

“So.” Just when Blas thought he started to see potential for redemption, Aníbal went and fucked it up. “How is this not using him?”

“Blas,” Sama warned before Aníbal could come up with some response that would probably dig his grave deeper.

Sad, really.

“What?”

Sama, however, decided ignoring Blas was the best course of action, instead turning to their guest-slash-prospective-business-buyer.

“Send me the details and I’ll let you know.”

“Sure.”

“So.” Blas cleared his throat. Sama really didn’t think straight when Aníbal was around, and Blas didn’t know how to hide his annoyance, only that it would be in his best interest to. “What did you want to see?”

“Basically the condition everything is in. The woman I was counting on for the appraisal couldn’t make it, but she told me to video call her so she could have a tour.”

“I have the books you wanted upstairs,” Sama spoke. “You can check them out before you leave.”

“Yeah.”
